ERGONOMICS -- OR -- WOW, MY JOB IS REALLY A PAIN IN MY NECK, BACK, ETC....
The word “ergonomics” may sound weird; in fact, many folks just don’t understand it. Simply put and according to OSHA, “ergonomics” is defined as the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of the working population. My patient Elsa came in with crippling neck and back pain just from performing her job as a dental hygienist. Elsa must spend hours on end twisting and turning to accommodate the physical position of every patient. After years of performing this type of work, Elsa’s neck and back were in very bad shape. I adjusted Elsa, which relieved much of her pain, and we sat down and came up with a workable ergonomic plan for her job. Both regular adjustments and the ergonomic plan have helped Elsa do her job without undue stress on her neck and back, and she is a happy camper now. Please refer me to someone you know who complains about work-related pain; she will benefit from having less pain and a customized ergonomic plan.
